Good news — you can. Varenik&Pelmen’s frozen takeaway range lets you take our handmade dumplings home and cook them whenever the craving strikes. This guide covers everything you need to know about our frozen products, how to cook them perfectly, storage tips, and why frozen dumplings are one of the best meal-prep secrets around.
Our Frozen Takeaway Range
What We Offer
Our frozen takeaway range includes packs of our most popular pelmeni and vareniki fillings. Each pack is 200g and priced at £9. The frozen products are exactly the same dumplings we serve fresh at the market — handmade with the same recipes, the same ingredients, and the same care. The only difference is that they have been flash-frozen at peak freshness to lock in flavour and quality.
Available Frozen Products
The specific fillings available frozen vary depending on what we have in stock. Our most commonly frozen varieties include:
Pelmeni: Pork & Beef (our bestseller), Chicken, Turkey, and Lamb & Beef
Vareniki: Potato, Cherry, Mushroom
Check eatpelmeni.com for current availability — some fillings may sell out early.
Where to Buy
Frozen packs are available exclusively at our market stall locations. Simply ask our team for frozen takeaway and they will show you what is in stock. We are also working on an online ordering system for home delivery — follow us on social media for launch updates.
How to Cook Frozen Pelmeni at Home
The Boiling Method — Classic and Foolproof
This is the traditional and most recommended method for cooking frozen pelmeni:
Step 1: Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Use plenty of water — at least 2 litres per 200g of dumplings. The more water, the better.
Step 2: Add the frozen pelmeni directly to the boiling water. Do not thaw them first — cook from frozen for best results.
Step 3: Stir gently to prevent them from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
Step 4: Wait for the water to return to a boil, then cook for 5 to 8 minutes. The pelmeni are ready when they float to the surface and the dough is tender.
Step 5: Drain with a slotted spoon and serve immediately with sour cream, butter, herbs, or your preferred toppings.
Pan-Fried Pelmeni — For Extra Crunch
For a crispy twist on the classic, try pan-frying your pelmeni after boiling:
Step 1: Boil the pelmeni as described above.
Step 2: Heat butter or oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
Step 3: Add the boiled pelmeni and fry for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.
Step 4: Serve with sour cream and fresh herbs.
How to Cook Frozen Vareniki
Frozen vareniki are cooked using the same boiling method as pelmeni, but may need an extra minute or two of cooking time due to their larger size. Sweet vareniki (cherry, strawberry) should be cooked gently to prevent the fruit filling from bursting. Serve savoury vareniki with sour cream and fried onions; serve sweet vareniki with sour cream, sugar, or honey.
Storage and Shelf Life
How Long Do Frozen Dumplings Last?
Our frozen pelmeni and vareniki can be stored in your home freezer for up to 3 months at -18°C or colder. Keep them in their sealed packaging until you are ready to cook. Once thawed or cooked, dumplings should be consumed within 24 hours and stored in the refrigerator.
Can I Refreeze Thawed Dumplings?
We do not recommend refreezing dumplings once they have thawed, as this can affect the texture of the dough and the quality of the filling. For best results, cook from frozen and eat immediately.
Transport Tips
If you are buying frozen packs at the market and need to travel home, the dumplings will stay frozen for a reasonable time in their packaging. For journeys longer than 30 minutes, consider bringing a cool bag. Once home, transfer them to your freezer promptly.
Why Frozen Dumplings Are a Meal-Prep Game Changer
The Ultimate Weeknight Dinner
Frozen dumplings are one of the best kept secrets of efficient home cooking. With a pack of frozen pelmeni in your freezer, you are never more than 10 minutes away from a hot, satisfying, homemade meal. No prep, no chopping, no complicated steps — just boil and eat. This makes frozen pelmeni perfect for busy weeknights when you want something better than takeaway but do not have time to cook.
Perfect Portion Control
Because frozen dumplings can be cooked in any quantity, they offer perfect portion control. Cook 100g for a light snack, 200g for a standard meal, or 300g when you are really hungry. No waste, no leftovers (unless you want them), and every portion is as fresh as the last.
Always Have a Backup Meal Ready
Stocking your freezer with a few packs of frozen pelmeni and vareniki means you always have a delicious backup meal ready. Unexpected guests? Late home from work? Nothing else in the fridge? Frozen dumplings to the rescue.
